Comprehensive Siting Legislation
SI2 Commercial Solar Model Policy
INTRODUCTION —
Helping States Streamline Permitting of Large-Scale Solar Projects
To meet rising energy demand, more clean energy projects, like large-scale solar, will need to be permitted and built in communities across the nation. And yet, most local governments have very little experience permitting these facilities. This legislation, developed by the Solar and Storage Industries Institute (SI2), provides state lawmakers with key permitting requirements and clear recommended timelines for large-scale solar projects, and includes an outline of the responsibilities of local governments.
By establishing baseline standards, this legislation provides states with a clearer pathway to expand energy infrastructure while providing states with a framework to help communities access reliable and affordable solar energy as an option.
“Energy prices across the nation continue to rise, and our model policy helps provide American households and businesses with affordable energy solutions they want and need. By removing permitting barriers, it gives states a clear path to expand solar, cut costs, and deliver reliable clean energy faster.”
– David Gahl, Executive Director, SI2
